The world is quite a bit different today than it was when we sent our last newsletter. We realize that everyone receiving this has had added stresses, obligations and pressures put on them due to the COVID-19 pandemic and accompanying uncertainties. All of us at CircleCI are feeling them too.
With that said, we’re sending this out in the hopes that it can be a short trip back to normalcy, or that something in it might inspire creativity or provide a needed break. We’ll continue to send these newsletters out in that spirit until things do eventually return to normal.
Improving our convenience images
We’re excited to announce that we have reconfigured our fleet of Docker images, and that our first two images are now available — the Base image and the Go image. These next-gen images are smaller, faster, and easier to download. Because they will only be rebuilt for security issues or critical bugs, they are more stable and deterministic. Read more here.
Interested in developing your own image? Please take a moment to fill out our brief survey to tell us more about your needs. You can also learn more about when to use a CircleCI orb vs. a custom Docker image in our Discuss post.
Have you enabled pipelines?
Pipelines processing allows you to use our new UI and access features like reusable config, auto-cancellation of redundant builds, and more. To provide the best experience possible, we will automatically be enabling pipelines for all projects in the coming month - if this affects any of your projects, you will be receiving additional details via email. You can enable pipelines for your projects by navigating to Project Settings → Advanced Settings.
Make the switch to our new UI
Our team has been hard at work building a new interface that is more responsive and makes it easier for you to accomplish your most important tasks in CircleCI. You can opt-in now to test out the new interface by clicking the banner at the top of any job detail page. Beginning on April 15, we will start to remove the ability to switch back to our old UI.
If you want to learn more about the new UI and have your questions answered, join us today, March 26th at 12:00 PST for our first Open Circle Session hosted by Sr. Product Manager Kate Catlin and Software Engineer Olu Ayandosu. Anyone who signs up and joins the live discussion will receive $25 to donate to a charity of their choice via Tisbest!

Community orb spotlight
If you would like to see your orb featured in one of our future newsletters, please submit interest here.
Roopak Venkatakrishnan, a Software Engineer at Bolt, has built an orb to make certain repeated operations on CircleCI easier. The orb contains an impressive amount of functionality, much like a swiss army knife, and has run on over 55,000 pipelines. Use this orb to queue jobs within a workflow, queue workflows, send builds to PagerDuty, get artifacts from a CircleCI job, publish a release to a specific GitHub repository, and more. View orb.
